The Mission
We are more than a social platform.
We are a non-profit - and we reinvest our collective resources to serve the flourishing of the diverse communities we are made up of.
We are on a mission to expand sacred sound offerings & awareness, to nurture the benefits of practice, and to cultivate interfaith connection.
1. Expand sacred sound offerings.
Collapsible content
Equip communities to share their events widely.
At Sacred Sound Circle, we are dedicated to increasing the accessibility & visibility of sacred sound practices. Our online social platform will make these practices easily accessible to all who are searching for them, and our free tools, support, and resources will equip and empower communities to share their offerings more widely than ever before. We don’t stop our work here - our dedicated team will work tirelessly to expand the visibility of these practices in the world. We are building strong outreach capacity to reach new people through our networks, social media presence, events, and email lists. Volunteers and future staff will curate great posts from our platform and create new content to be shared widely — including in resources, podcasts, videos, social media posts, newsletters, and publications — and we will attend and host events to reach new circles of people.
Inspire, train, & support new facilitators and founders.
Expanding sacred sound offerings requires facilitators and organizers — people to lead the practice, hold the space, and manage logistics. Our platform offers key leadership cultivation tools that inspire and empower individuals to learn how to facilitate and to start new communities. Our Practice in Action section will feature posts on all the questions they might have: like how to build confidence as a facilitator, where to find trainings or workshops, how to publicize events, how to find support networks, and best-practices for nurturing welcoming community. It will also feature free training resources shared by our community members. Our Chat Groups section will allow individuals to gather interest and support by joining local/interest-based groups or by starting new chat groups. Our Support Network section will help provide all necessary logistics, such as finding host sites, musicians, or accommodations. Once our team of staff and volunteers is well established, we plan to host our own facilitation, leadership, and community building workshops, and to implement a support feature on our platform that allows questions to be asked directly to those with insight and experience.
Build a sacred economy of mutual aid to sustain community flourishing.
Finally, in order to continue offering sacred sound, facilitators and groups need funds. Sacred Sound Circle is creating an alternative economy to build sustainable streams of revenue for sacred sound facilitators and organizations, rooted in ethical and socially beneficial principles of sacred economics. Our Community Market section celebrates the benefits economic exchange can bring. Sacred sound communities will be able to raise the funds they need to continue sharing their practices in abundance, and individuals will be able to support the facilitators and organizations they appreciate in exchange for meaningful products, services, and other offerings. Far too many sacrifice and struggle to offer sacred sound practices and build community. The more networks of mutual aid available, the more widely sacred sound can be shared. Sacred Sound Circle will cultivate financial exchange that reduces barriers to sharing practices widely and frequently.
2. Expand awareness of sacred sound.
Collapsible content
Bring sacred sound to popular awareness.
Sacred sound practices are hidden gems, available to those who know where to look. By establishing the concept of sacred sound within popular consciousness, we can expand the accessibility of these practices.
Recent history has proven the immeasurable value of concept-building. Take the example of meditation. Previously, meditation referred to isolated practices embedded within specific religious traditions, available only to small subsets of the population. In recent decades, the tireless work of thought leaders has brought the concept of meditation to the masses. The term has evolved to refer to a host of practices, present across many different religious, spiritual, secular, and scientific traditions, available to all who are interested regardless of identity.
The Sacred Sound Circle non-profit will create a forward-facing presence of sacred sound in the world, linking previously isolated practices under a central concept, and prioritizing making these practices available to all who are interested.
Use all forms of media to expand awareness, and champion sacred sound events, festivals, workshops, and gatherings.
We will elevate sacred sound using all available platforms: social media, podcasts, newsletters, publications, news outlets, interviews, speaking engagements, events, and festivals.
Inspire our community members to share their stories.
We will cultivate leaders to become voices of sacred sound, sharing media and stories that express the beauty, joy, and value of these practices.
3. Nurture the benefits of practice.
Collapsible content
Make practice resources and communities easily accessible to all, fostering deep, meaningful, and consistent practice.
Spiritual practices offer profound benefits to practitioners. Religions, traditions, and scientific studies discuss these benefits at length, ranging from healing, stress reduction, physical health, personal transformation, celebration, community connection, creative expression, direct experience of the sacred, and so much more.
At Sacred Sound Circle, we believe the right tools and support can deepen these benefits. Our Discover section will allow visitors to search for and find everything they may need to start, sustain, and nurture their practice - such as song sheets, practice guides, practice aids and companion tools like videos or audio, reflections, and beyond. Moreover, spiritual and scientific circles are clear in their consensus on this crucial point: practicing within a community elevates the benefits far beyond what is possible as an individual. Our platform will allow visitors to search for, find, and connect directly with communities that will love and support them on their practice journey.
Empower sacred communities to engage in service, justice, and peace work.
The benefits of spiritual practice do not stop with individuals or communities. With certainty, they ripple out to impact the world. These practices cultivate incredible fruits — like compassion, care, cooperation, equity, energy, and community power — which translate naturally into service, justice, and peace building work. Sacred Sound Circle is dedicated to empowering this work. By building well-connected communities and outreach networks, we generate collective power that can be mobilized to support service, justice, and peace efforts. Our Practice in Action section will curate reflections, guides, resources, and opportunity posts that inspire communities to take action, provide frameworks to make the action impactful, and empower us all to use the gifts our practices have given us to create a better world. Our social media, newsletters, publications, and other outreach efforts will uplift stories of sacred sound communities who have put their practice into action.
The Sacred Sound Circle non-profit is guided by the principles of service, justice, and peace. We seek always to encourage our community members to live by these values and to put them into practice. We show up in solidarity for those in the world who need care, love, support, and advocacy. When our organization gains stable footing, we plan to strategically employ our resources to make sacred sound offerings more accessible to vulnerable and marginalized communities, including those in recovery programs, prisons, hospitals, inner cities, and rural areas.
4. Cultivate interfaith connection.
Collapsible content
Nurture a family of collaboration and mutual support across communities.
Sacred Sound Circle works to cultivate a family of collaboration and mutual aid across diverse communities, leveraging our connections to magnify our collective impact. Music, sound, and dance are mediums through which humans transcend the boundaries between each another. Sacred sound allows us to gather across difference to meditate, pray, worship, or celebrate, facilitating the cross-cultural understanding, appreciation, and friendship our world so desperately needs.
We emphasize interfaith collaboration to magnify our collective impact. Having a non-profit that serves all sacred sound communities allows us to pool far more resources than are available to us individually. These resources will in turn be used to create tools, services, and networks of mutual aid that benefit us all. Our offerings are designed to make collaboration easy and effective across lines of distance and difference - individuals and communities will be able to find each other quickly, message and connect, collaborate on projects and events, and ask for or offer support.
Educate about the diversity of sacred sound traditions.
There is a big tent that connects sacred sound practices across traditions - yet amidst what is shared, there is stunning diversity. We will never diminish this. Instead, we celebrate and give voice to the unique and intricate histories, practices, and philosophies of various traditions, and we center learning as a vehicle to nurture appreciation for this diversity. Our platform will be a hub for writing and media, shared directly by those belonging to each tradition. Rather than having to scour the internet for resources that explain different traditions, visitors to our platform will have a plethora of learning materials at their fingertips.
Ignite greater interfaith participation.
Beyond learning, we equip individuals to take the next step as interfaith engagers: participation. Our platform gathers a vast diversity of sacred sound offerings in one central network, allowing individuals to find the practices they love, while also presenting them with opportunities to try something totally new.
Attending new gatherings can be daunting. Have you ever shown up for an event where you felt out of place? Maybe you weren’t sure where to sit, what to wear, or how to participate respectfully. Maybe you needed a friend to help you feel comfortable.
Our platform is designed to help those seeking new experiences overcome hesitation. When posting an event, organizers will be prompted to include information about what to expect, how to show up, and how to participate. Users will be able to message event organizers for more information and join chat groups to find friends or to ask for insights. Our team will curate the best posts about the ins-and-outs of different sacred sound traditions, which will be linked alongside events. We recognize that some sacred events are open to all, whereas others are intended for those who identify with the tradition. Organizers will be able to add labels to their events specifying this. These features will assuage the anxiety of those who want to engage with traditions that are new to them, building a culture of interfaith exchange and appreciation.
Uplift dialogue about what beneficial interfaith engagement looks like.
Our team will curate and publish resources that reflect specifically on best-practices for impactful interfaith bridge building, and we will uplift ideas and opportunities for collaboration. Looking towards the future, we plan to host events that teach, foster, and celebrate interfaith connection.
Our vision: a more peaceful & compassionate world.
Sacred sound communities bring us deeper into our inner practices, opening possibilities for healing and transformation — and they bring us into deeper communion with the world, connecting us with others and inspiring service and compassion.
